MBABANE – Public transport heroes in the spotlight: nominations are now open!
The countdown has begun for the highly anticipated Public Transport Festival, a celebration of the unsung heroes who keep communities moving. Nominations for its prestigious awards opened on Monday, 13 January 2025.
This was confirmed by the Project Coordinator, Menziwokuhke Mtsetfwa. When reached for comment, he said, “Following the successful completion of data collection from service providers across the country and subsequent analysis, individuals and teams will be recognized for their outstanding contributions to the industry.”
Nominations already in progress in Mbabane.
According to Mtsetfwa, the analysis of the comprehensive data collected will guide relevant stakeholders—such as insurance companies, transport-related businesses, and government agencies—in providing targeted support to the public transport sector. This valuable information will inform future initiatives and resource allocation. He emphasized that the data collection process could have been significantly enhanced with sponsorship from these key stakeholders, which would have enabled the project to better compensate the agents involved in the data collection process.
Nominations for various award categories, including “Best Driver of the Year,” “Customer Service Excellence,” and the “Safety Excellence Award,” opened on Monday. Individuals and organizations can submit nominations through a dedicated online platform provided by Mojaticket or via designated agents. The nomination period will be accompanied by a vibrant social media campaign featuring interviews with project coordinators, representatives from public transport associations, and industry workers. These interviews will be shared on Facebook and TikTok to raise awareness and encourage widespread participation.
“A comprehensive nominations criteria document has been shared with all relevant associations to ensure a fair and transparent selection process. This collaborative approach emphasizes the importance of industry input in shaping the recognition framework and fostering a culture of excellence within the public transport sector,” said Mtsetfwa.
The Public Transport Festival, a joint initiative by public transport associations and the Creative Collabo, aims to acknowledge and appreciate the dedication and hard work of public transport professionals. The festival will feature a range of activities, including capacity-building workshops, engaging roadshows, and community activations, all aimed at improving the overall well-being and professionalism of the industry.
The official launch of the Public Transport Festival is scheduled for 20 January 2025. Potential partners and sponsors are invited to learn more about the project and explore opportunities for collaboration.
The Ministry of Public Transport and Works is expected to play a key role in the launch event, marking the beginning of the festival’s second phase, which will focus on more interactive and practical initiatives.
