MBABANE – Eswatini will be proudly represented by Nsizwa Thwala at the Totalsports Two Oceans Ultra Marathon, a renowned road race in South Africa.
The ultra marathon spans 56 kilometers (35 miles) and is set to take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025, with over 13,000 runners from around the world expected to participate. This event is not just a race; it’s a celebration of endurance, community, and personal growth, and Thwala’s participation highlights Eswatini’s presence on the international athletics stage.
The race will commence at 5:15am from Newlands Main Road, near the Newlands Swimming Pool, and will conclude at the University of Cape Town (UCT) Rugby Fields in Rondebosch. This year marks the 54th edition of the event, which takes athletes on a stunning course around the Cape Peninsula.
Thwala, who has previously completed nine Two Oceans Ultra Marathons, is aiming for his 10th this year, which would earn him a Blue Number-a permanent race number that signifies special recognition and treatment for runners who achieve this milestone.
He expressed his determination to finish the race despite the fatigue from his long journey, stating,
“I will get to the finish line and take my 10th medal.”
He will be joined by his teammate Tema Dlamini, who will participate in the 21 km race on Sunday, marking her first competitive event.
Thwala emphasized the personal transformation he experienced through his training for this race, noting that it not only changed his life but also inspired others to become extraordinary runners.
The Totalsports Two Oceans Ultra Marathon is officially sanctioned by World Athletics (WA), Athletics South Africa (ASA), and Western Province Athletics (WPA), ensuring a high standard of competition and organization.
