MBABANE – Over 521 residents of Mtsambama Inkhundla received free medical assistance from a team of doctors from Taiwan, on Sunday.

According to Jingisile Mahlalela, Secretary for the Taiwan Doctors, the outreach benefited 370 women, 103 men, and 43 children. She also revealed during an interview with EBIS that six patients were transferred to hospital for specialised care, including treatment for serious conditions such as cancer.

Mtsambama Member of Parliament Sibongile Mamba welcomed the initiative, stating that it came at a time when residents were in desperate need of healthcare support.

“Our people travel long distances to access healthcare. We only have one hospital, Hlathikhulu Government Hospital, and some are forced to seek medical help in other areas such as Khubutha Inkhundla,” she said.

Mamba further expressed her gratitude for a proposed clinic expected to be constructed in Ndzingeni, noting that she hopes it will include facilities to accommodate at least 10 patients requiring overnight monitoring.

She also extended her appreciation to the Taiwan doctors and appealed for similar outreach programmes to be extended to other areas facing the same challenges as Mtsambama.

Residents of Mtsambama also expressed their deep appreciation for the free medical services, saying the initiative brought hope and relief to many who struggle to access basic healthcare.

Earlier this month, Taiwan’s Medical Mission in Eswatini, in collaboration with the Taiwan Embassy, provided free medical services to nearly 500 residents in communities surrounding Mahlangatsha. The outreach included medical treatment and likely donations, according to the Independent News Eswatini.

In a separate initiative in February 2025, about 620 residents in Gilgal also benefited from a similar medical outreach organised by the Taiwan Embassy and Medical Mission.
