MBABANE – Captains of teams participating in the Ingwenyama Cup last 16 stage have urged the football community to prioritize safety, particularly on the roads.
The players emphasized the importance of ensuring the nation’s safety at all times, especially during the tournament. They highlighted the need to avoid drink-driving under any circumstances.
Representing their teams were Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa for Green Mamba, Muzi ‘Mzoro’ Dlamini for Royal Leopard, Menzi ‘Magawugawu’ Simelane for Moneni Pirates, and Musa Dlamini for Rangers.
The players made their appeal during the Ingwenyama Cup last 16 press conference held on Wednesday afternoon at the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (SMVAF) offices in Mbabane.
In addition to promoting safety, the captains shared their competitive spirit ahead of the games. Defending champions Green Mamba will face Royal Leopard, while Rangers will host Moneni Pirates in one of the biggest clashes at this stage. Other fixtures are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
Rangers striker Musa Dlamini, who scored a hat trick in their 7-0 win over All Nations last Saturday, said he is ready for the game and is focusing on the team rather than personal achievements. “I invite supporters to come in their numbers to watch an exciting match. As ambassadors of the Ingwenyama Cup, it is important to remind the nation to always practice road safety and avoid drinking and driving,” he stated.
Green Mamba striker Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa also stressed the importance of caution on the roads. He encouraged fans to come and support their teams while keeping safety in mind. He assured that his team is prepared and continuing their preparations for the match.
Royal Leopard winger Muzi ‘Mzoro’ Dlamini echoed these sentiments, urging fans and the nation to say no to drink-driving and prioritize road safety.
Moneni Pirates’ Menzi Simelane highlighted the importance of ensuring everyone returns home safely after the games, reinforcing the tournament’s mandate to promote road safety. He encouraged fans to adhere to all safety precautions.
This year’s slogan for the Ingwenyama Cup is “Take Charge.”
