MBABANE – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini calls all members of the public to contribute in ensuring that Eswatini becomes a crime-free country, where people can live without fear.

The prime minister was speaking during the launch of the National Safety and Security Operation campaign at Matsanjeni, Lavumisa, today (Thursday, November 28, 2024).

Dlamini said continued to rear its ugly head in the country, undermining societal values, impeding growth and eroding trust within communities.

To combat crime, the PM believed that this effort required shared responsibility from all stakeholders. The launch was held under the theme: ‘We are at your service as Police Service to be a Safety and Security Buffer for the Nation in Partnership with Stakeholders.’

The premier expressed worry that crime continued to rear its ugly head, as new crime trends emerged on a daily basis, despite the work that was done on the ground. “Crimes such as murder, rape and Gender Based Violence continue to be thorn and a cause for concern in the country as the frequency of cases recorded is constant and alarming,” Dlamini said.

He described crime as something that undermined societal values, while impeding economic growth, and eroding trust within communities. To combat this, the Government remained committed to supporting robust crime prevention strategies, accordingto the premier. “However, success requires collective action—every citizen, community leader, and stakeholder must actively contribute,” he said.

In conclusion, the prime minister said the Government of Eswatini prioritised the safety and security of its citizens, recognising them as fundamental pillars of the Kingdom’s prosperity. “Together, we must strive for sustainable solutions to ensure that no community lives in fear of crime or criminals,” Dlamini concluded.
