MBABANE – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has told His Majesty King Mswati III on how he was impressed with the work done by His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS).
Dlamini did this today (Friday, August 2, 2024) in Matsapha during the celebration of the 16th Correctional Services Day and Pass Out parade. He did that when he introduced the King to make his remarks before the correctional officers. The premier said he was impressed that the HMCS ensured that inmates were rehabilitated to become better people when they served time in the correctional facilities.
“Your Majesty, at the invitation of the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, I recently visited Matsapha Correctional Services, where I was impressed by what I witnessed. Amongst the many things, that were impressive was the vocational training provided to offenders as well as to community members,” Dlamini said.
Within the prison precinct, the prime minister said new structures had been erected to replace old and dilapidated ones, a programme that was ongoing and that needed Government’s continuous financial support. He told the King that this was in no doubt the pursuit of His Majesty’s vision of working towards a Kingdom of Eswatini that was well developed, peaceful and stable.
He narrated that he found it impressive that His Majesty’s Correctional Services were innovative to mitigate the increasing cost of food by producing their own through their agriculture programmes. He said while reducing the cost of feeding the inmates, these programmes also ensured that a healthy diet was provided.
Dlamini promised that Government would continue to support efforts aimed at improving the dispensation of corrections in the country to sustain peace and stability as well as to ensure the rule of law. He also congratulated the recruits for completing their training as correctional officers.
