LOBAMBA – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini will strive to build teamwork in Cabinet in the best interests of the nation.

The prime minister made this promise in his written response to Members of Parliament (MPs) who are members of the Portfolio Committee of the Prime Minister’s Office. MPs wanted to know what he was doing to ensure that there was unity in Cabinet.

During the 2025/26 first quarter performance debate of the Prime Minister’s Office, MP Chief Ngalonkhulu Mabuza raised a question regarding whether Cabinet worked collectively.

Another concern on Cabinet collectivity was expressed by House of Assembly Speaker Jabulani Mabuza. The speaker referred to the Constitutional provision the PM mentioned concerning unity in Cabinet. He requested that the prime minister remind Cabinet members that they were required by the Constitution to work together as a team.

The speaker, who is also a former Cabinet member, pointed out that the Constitution mandates Cabinet to function as a united team. He emphasized that the nation would be pleased to see members of Cabinet working collaboratively for the betterment of the country. He further noted that the success or failure of one Cabinet member affected the entire team. While he acknowledged that Cabinet members might not always think or act alike, he said they should work through their differences and always present a united front when addressing the public.

Lobamba Lomdzala MP Marwick Khumalo also commented on the issue, stating that it is natural for people to disagree at times. However, despite internal differences, he emphasized that Cabinet should always appear unified in public settings, particularly in Parliament, since Cabinet reports to the legislative body. He added that with three years remaining in the current government’s term, there is still ample opportunity to achieve significant progress. He urged the prime minister to ensure that Cabinet demonstrates unity when addressing Parliament.
