LOBAMBA – Preparations for the opening of the Second Session of the 12th Parliament are nearing completion, with the grand event scheduled for January 31, 2025, at the Parliament in Lobamba.
The ceremony will feature Their Majesties, with His Majesty King Mswati III set to deliver the Speech from the Throne, outlining the nation’s policy direction for the year.
Rehearsals for the event took place today, covering the entire program, from the arrival of Their Majesties to the group photo session with legislators. Representing His Majesty was Parliament’s Assistant Clerk at Table, Mathokoza Dlamini, while Parliament’s Lady Usher, Tsiteni Cindzi, stood in for Her Majesty the Indlovukazi.
Key officials from various government ministries were present to ensure the readiness of all arrangements.
Senate President Lindiwe Dlamini and House of Assembly Speaker Jabulani Mabuza also participated, rehearsing their roles for the significant occasion. Deputy Senate President Ndumiso Mdluli and Deputy Speaker Madala Mhlanga were among the attendees.
The event will be broadcast live on Eswatini TV, Channel YemaSwati’s YouTube channel, and Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS), with this publication providing comprehensive coverage.
Clerk to Parliament Benedict Xaba expressed satisfaction with the rehearsals, commending the participants for their dedication. He highlighted that only minor adjustments remained and emphasized the importance of punctuality.
“By 10 a.m., everyone must be seated. Latecomers, including legislators, will not be allowed entry,” Xaba stated.
To manage attendance and ensure safety, Xaba stressed that the event would be strictly by invitation. He advised attendees against sharing their access cards, underscoring the role of invitations and accreditation cards in maintaining security. He also encouraged the public to watch the proceedings via live broadcasts.
