MBABANE – In the heart of Ekutsimuleni Chiefdom, hope is rising with the sound of construction.

The long-awaited rehabilitation and construction of the Sidvokodvo Earth Dam has officially begun—marking a transformative milestone for Mkhiweni Inkhundla and its surrounding communities.

Spearheaded by the Honourable Minister of Agriculture Mandla Tshawuka, the project promises to deliver lasting benefits. Once completed, the dam will irrigate up to 50 hectares of farmland, empowering local farmers to grow crops throughout the year, regardless of shifting rainfall patterns. This advancement will not only improve food security but also increase household incomes and strengthen the region’s agricultural resilience.

Livestock farmers will also see improved water access, reducing the strain on grazing lands and helping ensure healthier herds.

During the launch, Tshawuka encouraged community members to take ownership of the dam project, describing it as a powerful tool for climate resilience, job creation, and poverty alleviation.

The day was made even more special by the generous support of the Government of Taiwan, which donated 100 bags of rice to the community. This gesture of solidarity further deepens the friendship between Taiwan and Eswatini, exemplifying shared values of empowerment and development.
