Visionary Diba Diba shared his insights on the significance of the Sidvwedvwe x Indvwangu Nemswenko Mgcibelos initiative. “This is a unique and proudly Swazi experience welcoming creatives from all over the Kingdom. The aim of this event is to create an atmosphere for collaborations that showcase dynamic and diverse talents from Eswatini,” he explained. “We want to promote the culture of endorsing local content, which includes fashion, art, music, and Eswatini-made products as a whole. We have so much to offer locally and to the global market; our culture is vibrant and colourful.”
Diba Diba emphasized the importance of showcasing Swazi craftsmanship and creativity on a larger scale. He noted that traditional garments, such as ‘Emahiya,’ are widely used in other African countries and beyond for fashion pieces and at traditional events. “Take for instance ‘Emahiya’ from Eswatini; they are highly sought after for their unique designs and cultural significance,” he said.
The influence of Swazi culture has even reached prominent figures in the music industry. Diba Diba pointed out that renowned South African DJ Kabza De Small wore a suit with lihiyah lining at the prestigious Redbull Symphony event, showcasing the global appeal of Swazi fashion. “This event is to awaken the sleeping giants inside of us as emaSwati; we are unique and should take pride in that,” he emphasized.
