SIGANGENI – Community football in Sigangeni is set for a major revival following a combined sponsorship of E210 000 from Montigny Investments and the Jaziland Foundation.

The Sigangeni League went without sponsorship last season, making this funding a timely and much-needed boost for local football. Montigny Investments has committed E150 000 over three years for the Sigangeni Football League, while the Jaziland Foundation, through Siphocosini Indvuna Yenkhundla Jazi Wilton Mamba, has contributed E60 000 over the same period for the Sigangeni Knockout Tournament. Combined, this means E70 000 will flow into local football annually over the next three years.

Montigny Group Risk and Community Liaison Manager Sihle Mavuso said the partnership reflects more than just financial support. “This sponsorship represents shared responsibility between Montigny and the communities. Football is a tool for youth development, teaching teamwork, discipline, and leadership,” said Mavuso.

Dr Comfort Shongwe, Chairman of the Hhohho Regional Football Association, applauded the sponsors and noted the league’s role in shaping not only talented players but also responsible citizens.

“The Sigangeni League has humble beginnings, but with proper support, it can produce players and referees who compete nationally. Clubs also play a part in protecting our communities, including safeguarding forests that sustain livelihoods,” Shongwe said.

League Chairman Vusi Mamba highlighted the impact for young players: “This is a lifeline for the league. It allows teams to return to the pitch and gives young players the chance to pursue their football dreams.”

Referees, including Wandile Mamba, also welcomed the funding, emphasizing that it will strengthen league structures, raise competition standards, and ensure long-term growth.

The E210 000 investment promises to revive Sigangeni football, nurture talent, and empower the community, demonstrating how strategic sponsorship can make a lasting impact at grassroots level.
