MBABANE – Through the support of the European Union (EU) and International Trade Centre (ITC), Vuvulane Food Market has unveiled a 10KW solar power plant and water tanks.

Vuvulane Food Market was founded by Khulekani Msweli in 2019 and has become a local hub for produce and community engagement. The recent implementation of solar power and water infrastructure represents a transformative step, ensuring energy efficiency and sustainable water management practices.

During the unveiling, Msweli highlighted the benefits of the initiative.

“The installation of solar power and water tanks has been transformative, not just for our business, but for the entire Vuvulane community,” Msweli said. “Improved lighting from solar-powered security lights has already shown a decrease in nighttime crime, bolstering community safety.”

Also present was European Union (EU) Ambassador to Eswatini Dessislava Choumelova. She underscored the project’s importance, saying, “The Vuvulane Food Market initiative exemplifies the EU’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. It showcases the power of partnerships in driving positive change.”

Chairman of the Vuvulane Development Committee Mfundo Magongo expressed his admiration for Msweli’s initiative. “This development proves that with dedication and support, we can transform our area and uplift our people,” Magongo said.
