MBABANE – Eswatini Oil and Mill Industries (SOMI) has offered to construct a school and a hospital in Eswatini, as part of their collaboration with the government to support the less fortunate in the country.
This was disclosed by the company management during a visit by the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) to SOMI’s headquarters in Matsapha on Monday (July 8, 2024).
The company, which specialises in the production of cooking oil and cleaning products, aims to bring essential services closer to the people.
Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Thulisile Dladla stated that the company was assisting the government in realising the King’s vision of addressing unemployment and crime in Eswatini. She further mentioned that during the King’s visit to bless SOMI’s operations, a young woman sought help for employment due to her current unemployment and hardships. In response, the company to saw the need to address the issue.
Director of SOMI, Mohammed David, outlined their commitment to realising the Government’s goals of reducing unemployment and crime.
“The company we have created has reduced unemployment. We are also very happy to assist and in future we are also going to build a school and a hospital for matsapha residents which will take about three to four years,” he said.
David emphasised SOMI’s efforts in combating unemployment through their partnership with farmers from the Ministry of Agriculture in cultivating soya beans. He mentioned that the collaboration not only benefits local farmers but also contributes to the economic development of Eswatini.
He also highlighted SOMI’s plans to undertake the construction of a school and a hospital in Matsapha, with the project expected to take three to four years to complete. He further mentioned that by focusing on enhancing education and healthcare infrastructure, SOMI aims to contribute to community progress and align with the country’s development objectives.
