LOBAMBA – It was a moment of guidance and encouragement in the House of Assembly as Speaker Jabulani Mabuza called on Cabinet ministers to make Parliament their primary platform for communication.

Standing before Members of Parliament, the Speaker highlighted the importance of Ministerial Statements—formal presentations that allow ministers to share updates and developments directly with the nation through the House. He reminded ministers, including the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, that Parliament is not just a legislative space, but also a trusted avenue for transparent and constructive dialogue.

Speaker Mabuza noted a growing trend of ministers choosing external platforms to make important statements. While he acknowledged that public engagement was important, he stressed that bypassing Parliament missed an opportunity for collaboration and clarity.

“Standing Order 60 gives ministers the right to deliver Ministerial Statements in the House,” Mabuza explained. “These statements can strengthen the relationship between ministers and MPs and ensure that ideas—whether polished or still in development—are constructively scrutinized and improved.”

He further encouraged ministers not to shy away from questions raised by MPs, emphasizing that such inquiries stem from a desire to understand and contribute—not to criticize.

In his closing remarks, the Speaker urged ministers present in the House to pass along this important message to their colleagues, reinforcing Parliament’s role as a pillar of democratic discourse and national development.
