MBABANE – The Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) has expressed profound sorrow following the passing of former Sihlangu and Denver Sundowns star, Fannie ‘General’ Terblanche.

Terblanche, known for his dynamic presence on the field, passed away last Friday, leaving the sports community in mourning. His loss is particularly felt by the ESRC, which regarded him as a football legend with untapped potential to contribute to the development of local football.

Dumisani Ntiwane, Senior Marketing and Communications Officer at ESRC conveyed the council’s grief, stating, “We are deeply hurt and shocked by his passing, especially as we believed he still had much to offer in shaping the future of football in Eswatini. He was a gem on the field and a regular feature in Sihlangu during his playing days. His death is a massive loss to our football community.”

Ntiwane further reflected on Terblanche’s legacy, describing him as “poetry in motion” during his time as a midfield maestro for Denver Sundowns. “For those of us fortunate enough to watch him play, he was truly an inspiration. His skill and dedication were unmatched,” he added.

The ESRC extended heartfelt condolences to Terblanche’s family, friends, and former teammates. “We pray that the Almighty grants them the strength to endure this difficult time and that Fannie’s soul rests in eternal peace,” Ntiwane said.

Terblanche’s contributions to football in Eswatini remain indelible, both as a player and as a role model for future generations. His passing leaves a void in the sports community, but his legacy will continue to inspire.
