MBABANE – Statistics is the cornerstone of informed policy decisions and they play a crucial role in economic management and evidence-based decision-making.
This was said by the Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE) Governor Dr Phil Mnisi today (Monday, July 29, 2024). This was during the official opening of a workshop on ‘Advanced Monetary and Financial Statistics’ hosted by the Macroeconomic and Financial Management Institute (MEFMI) of Eastern. The event was held at Happy Valley Hotel in Ezulwini.
Dr Minisi said he was encouraged by the comprehensive coverage lined up for the next five days, spanning from lectures on characteristics and classification of financial instruments, stocks, flows, accounting rules, money, liquidity, credit and debt, as well as hands-on exercises on the depository corporations survey.
He challenged the participants from 10 MEFMI countries to share experiences and reflect on areas of improvement. The participants also had a chance to share their expectations of the workshop, relating to their various fields of expertise.
Mnisi acknowledged the participation of representatives from South Sudan, whom he warmly welcomed into the MEFMI family. In his capacity as the chairperson of MEFMI Board of Governors, Dr Mnisi explained how he personally worked hard, engaging multiples stakeholders in regional meetings, to ensure the participation of South Sudan in MEFMI activities. He expressed optimism that their involvement would add value into the MEFMI programmes.
