MBABANE – He may not have won a medal for the country in the Olympics Games but Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa remained the best ever LiSwati to compete effectively in the games.
He is the first athlete to represent the country in four Olympic Games and also the only to reach the semi-finals stage in the Olympics. Matsenjwa confirmed before departure for Paris, France that this would be his last Olympics Games.
He debuted in the Olympics Games in London 2012 and took part in the Rio De Janeiro in 2016 and makes history in the 2020 (2021) Tokyo Olympics Games and then the Paris 2024 Olympics Games.
Matsenjwa made history in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics Games were he reached the semi-finals of the 200m and also set a national record of 20:22 seconds.
His last event in the Olympics Games was on Saturday when he compete in the 100m were he clocked 10:39 second while the gold medallists was United States (US) Noah Lyles who clocked 9:79 seconds, failing to beat the world record set by former Jamaica’s sprinter Usain Bolt.
Matsenjwa is also the current national record holder in 100m and 200m.
He had also represented the country almost in all the biggest competitions in the world including the Commonwealth Games, World Championships and the African Championships. Eswatini first took part in the Olympic Games in 1972 in Munich, Germany.
