MBABANE – Swim Lab continues to shine internationally.
They brought home eight gold medals during a swimming competition held in Maputo, Mozambique. They also won four silver medals and three bronze medals. The team had also sent two relay teams to the competitions.
The shining stars were Damien Desousa with four gold medals, Luca Fraser five gold medals and one silver medal. Swim Lab Coach Welcome Nhlabatsi confirmed the results on Monday.
“It was first gala of the season and we did very well. Not just podium finishes but we got a lot of personal best times. Some of our swimmers were swimming for the first time in an Olympic size pool and it was a bit overwhelming.
We had prepared very well for the season and it starts. The swimmers’ parents never disappoint. Driving all the way and seeing them in numbers really touched us as coaches.
A big thank you also goes to my assistant coach Mduduzi Xaba who works with the juniors. Coach Mduduzi also swam in the 50m free event for masters and got a gold medal. Talk about leading by example,” he said.
Nhlabatsi added that their next gala will be a local Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA) gala to be held at Enjabulweni on Saturday. He then encourages parents to come in numbers to support the club.
