MBABANE – The Youth of Eswatini are encouraged to explore the vast potential of agriculture as a career path.
This is because many traditional job sectors face increasing competition and limited opportunities.
This was said by Fezile Tembe, a 23-year-old farmer from Mahlanya, who is a shining example of the promise and potential that agriculture holds for the youth of Eswatini. During an interview with the Ministry of Agriculture, Tembe shared her experiences as a vegetable producer, legume grower, and dairy farmer.
Emphasising the many opportunities that agriculture provides, she called on young people to recognise the value and impact that this sector can have on their lives and on the nation’s economy.
“Eswatini has a lot of opportunities in farming that can bring development to the lives of young people and their families” she said.
According to Tembe, the pervasive issue of unemployment in Eswatini necessitates a shift in perspective among young people, from passively seeking conventional employment to actively creating their own opportunities.
She advised that the youth take responsibility for their own futures, leveraging their talents and passions to carve out new paths in the agricultural sector and beyond.
She pointed out the transformative role that social media has played in her business’s success. She emphasized the importance of strategically following pages on platforms like Facebook, noting that she had found valuable resources through the Ministry of Agriculture’s social media presence. She stressed that staying informed on industry trends, attending virtual conferences, and absorbing educational content can propel entrepreneurs like her forward. She also asserted that “going green” is the new wave of innovation and a key component of agricultural progress, positioning her own endeavours as both lucrative and eco-friendly.
