MBABANE – In a significant stride towards modernizing traffic law enforcement and enhancing public safety, the Royal Eswatini Police Service (#REPS) has unveiled a freshly trained cohort of 33 traffic officers.
These officers recently completed an intensive three-month Basic Traffic Course designed to equip them with advanced skills and knowledge to serve the community more effectively.
Addressing the graduating officers, Senior Deputy National Commissioner of Police, Shadrack Simelane, highlighted the importance of adhering to organizational protocols and fostering public trust.
Representing the National Commissioner of Police, Simelane underscored the dual responsibility of the officers: enforcing the law while maintaining justice and morality.
“The public demands are anchors for you to stick to procedures as articulated in organizational policies and state laws and take ideal decisions in multifaceted, complex, and unpredictable situations. The organization believes in morality, not corruption, and believes in justice, not lawlessness,” he stated.
This initiative is part of #REPS’ broader vision to improve road safety and ensure professionalism within the force. Alongside this training program, Simelane also announced a pivotal modernization plan—the introduction of electronic funds transfer systems for payments. This innovation is expected to enhance operational transparency and efficiency, streamlining interactions between the police and the public.
Constable Bongani Sigudla, speaking on behalf of the trainees, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the course. Sigudla emphasized that the new skills acquired would not only enhance the officers’ professional capabilities but also better prepare them for the complex challenges of traffic enforcement.
The initiative reflects #REPS’ commitment to creating a proficient traffic department dedicated to safeguarding the well-being of all Emaswati. By modernizing operations and investing in officer training, #REPS continues to build on its mantra, #SIKHONA, reinforcing its role as a pillar of safety and trust within the community.
As Eswatini moves forward into 2025, the transformative efforts by #REPS signal a new chapter in traffic law enforcement, promising safer roads and a more transparent and efficient service for the public.
