WILLIAM ‘COOL CAT’ SHONGWE TO GRACE BUILD IT UNDER-13 CHAMPIONSHIPS

MBABANE – Eswatini’s legendary international footballer, William ‘Cool Cat’ Shongwe, will be a special guest at the Build It Under-13 National Championships set to take place at Mavuso Sports Centre on Saturday, January 25, 2025.

The announcement was made by Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Marketing and Communications Officer, Muzi Radebe. Eight teams are set to compete in the one-day tournament, which promises to showcase some of the best young football talent in the country.

Radebe revealed that Shongwe has been invited to inspire and motivate the young players participating in the championship. Shongwe, now a SuperSport commentator, boasts an impressive football career. He was the goalkeeper for the national team, Sihlangu, and a key player for Kaizer Chiefs, where he won nine cup trophies from 1986 to 1992 without losing a single final.

“The Build It Under-13 National Championship is upon us. On Saturday, January 25, 2025, the eight Build It Under-13 Pick Teams will battle for the national championship at Mavuso Sports Centre. It is free entry. Kick-off is at 7:30 AM, and the day will be packed with action and excitement,” said Radebe.

Prizes will be awarded throughout the tournament, including an educational voucher worth E10 000 for the best player of the event. “The EFA and Build It cordially invite everyone to join as we foster the development of Eswatini’s youth through football,” added the statement from EFA.

The Build It Under-13 Championships not only provide a platform for young players to showcase their talent but also aim to encourage their personal growth and development through the sport. With William Shongwe in attendance, the event is set to be an unforgettable experience for young athletes
