MBABANE – Ingwenyama Cup Chairman Prince Hlangabeza has noted that the introduction of a women’s tournament was long over-due.
The women’s football component was introduced for the first time in the 2024/25 tournament, while the Ingwenyama Cup is currently in its seventh edition. The ladies’ teams were also included in the semi-final draw held on Monday evening at the Nkhanini Offices in Mbabane.
The tournament is generously sponsored to the tune of E100 000, with 12 teams initially participating, leaving four remaining. The winners will receive a substantial E20 000, while the runners-up will take home E10 000, and each of the semi-finalists will be awarded E5 000.
“The tournament has been growing since its inception. This year marks a significant milestone with the inclusion of women’s football, which has been absent in previous editions. Women are the ones who bring joy to everyone and play a vital role in our lives,” he stated.
During the semi-final draw, Nsingizini Hotspurs Ladies will face Royal Leopard, while Green Mamba Ladies will compete against Young Buffaloes Ladies. The dates and kick-off times for these matches will be announced in due course.
Prince Hlangabeza further expressed gratitude for the support from all stakeholders, including supporters, sponsors, and the football community. He urged fans to continue supporting the tournament and to purchase tickets, even if they cannot attend the matches, as this would be a direct show of support for their teams.
