SITEKI – The Youth Enterprise Revolving Fund (YERF) is transforming the lives of young entrepreneurs in Eswatini by providing financial support and opportunities for growth.

The fund has enabled several young people to establish successful businesses, contributing significantly to local economic development and job creation.

One inspiring story is that of Eddie Bennet, a 22-year-old entrepreneur who owns a thriving broiler production business in Matsetsa, Lubombo. Eddie’s Broilers, as his business is known, was launched in June 2024 after he received a E50,000 loan from YERF. With determination and a clear vision, Eddie invested the funds in high-quality chicks, feed, and necessary equipment. Today, his business is flourishing, supplying fresh broilers to local markets and creating job opportunities for others in his community. Eddie’s success is a testament to the impact of YERF’s financial support and the entrepreneurial spirit of Eswatini’s youth.

Another success story is that of Nelisiwe Gamedze, a 29-year-old who owns a layers production business in Lonhlupheko. In 2023, Nelisiwe received a E50,000 loan from YERF, which she used to start her egg production business. With 850 chickens, her business now produces an impressive 20 trays of eggs per day, supplying four local stores. Nelisiwe’s ability to manage her business effectively and consistently meet demand highlights the potential for young women entrepreneurs to thrive with the right support. Her story is an inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs, showcasing how targeted financial assistance can lead to sustainable business growth.

Melusi Dlamini, a 29-year-old entrepreneur from Malindza, has also benefited from YERF’s support. In 2019, he received a E30,000 loan to start a dairy production business, which he has since repaid in full. Melusi’s focus on sustainable farming practices, including quality feed and proper animal husbandry, has resulted in high milk production and a steady income stream. His business not only supports his family but also supplies fresh dairy products to local markets, contributing to the agricultural sector’s growth in Eswatini.

The YERF Board recently visited beneficiaries in the Lubombo region to assess the impact of the loans and gather feedback from young entrepreneurs. The visit highlighted the positive outcomes of YERF’s financial interventions, including increased production capacities, improved livelihoods, and expanded market access for youth-owned businesses.

The success of Eddie, Nelisiwe, and Melusi underscores the importance of supporting young entrepreneurs through accessible financing and capacity-building initiatives. The YERF’s commitment to empowering youth by providing affordable loans and business management training is proving to be a catalyst for economic transformation in Eswatini.

As more young entrepreneurs access the fund, the ripple effect on local communities is evident. Job creation, improved standards of living, and a boost in local production are just some of the benefits being realized. The YERF’s vision of fostering self-reliance and economic independence among the youth is steadily becoming a reality, painting a bright future for Eswatini’s young business leaders.

With ongoing support and expansion of YERF’s resources, the potential for further growth is immense. As these young entrepreneurs continue to thrive, they are not only uplifting themselves but also contributing to Eswatini’s economic resilience and prosperity.
