YOUTH VOICES SHINE DURING URBAN OCTOBER 2024 DISCUSSION IN MBABANE

MBABANE – This October, the Municipal Council of Mbabane is buzzing with excitement as we empower the voices of the youth during Urban October 2024!

This year’s theme focuses on the vibrant discussions around urban challenges, innovative solutions and the Council is leading the charge.

Council gathered youth people to express their thoughts and ideas on pressing urban issues, ranging from housing shortages to environmental sustainability. Their enthusiasm and creativity were on full display as they brainstormed actionable solutions to shape a better future for their city.

Council let the youth lead the discussion and even host the show which is normally co-hosted by Council’s Information and Public Relations unit. The show was hosted by Sivikelwe Mathunjwa, who is a Grade 11 student at Sifundzani High School.

The panel had probably Eswatini’s biggest YouTube star Banele Dlamini, otherwise known as ‘Banele wjlm’, Samukeliso Silindza who is product of Council’s flagship exchange programme with the City of Fort Worth, the President of the Youth Chamber of Commerce and Industries Eswatini Sakhile Nsibande, businesswoman and Mbabane resident Zindzi Thwala.

This year’s theme is ‘Youth Leading Climate and Local Action for Cities’, the theme highlights the critical role that young people can play in addressing urban issues and climate action. Eswatini is highly susceptible to the effects of climate change, including droughts, erratic rainfall, and storms. This emphasizes the need for young people to take an active role in building climate resilience in cities and towns across the country.

The youth have the energy and fresh perspectives to influence urban planning, environmental policy, and sustainable practices.
