LOBAMBA – Determination, discipline, and youthful spirit lit up the 7th edition of the Imbube Marathon, as 13-year-old Seluleko Ndzinisa, a Grade 7 learner from Mambane Primary School in the Lubombo Region, made an unforgettable mark by finishing first in the 10km race.
The young athlete proudly walked away with E5 000 in prize money — and a moment that will forever define her early journey in athletics. Taking part in such a major national event for the first time, Seluleko proved that age is no barrier to greatness.
With a smile as bright as her achievement, she described her win as both thrilling and empowering.
“Winning the race was so exciting, and it wasn’t that difficult because I was well prepared for it,” she said confidently. “I trained hard, and I believed in myself.”
Her stunning performance captivated spectators at Somhlolo National Stadium, where thousands gathered to celebrate fitness, culture, and unity under this year’s marathon theme. Many were inspired by the young girl’s courage and determination, applauding her as a symbol of hope for Eswatini’s next generation of athletes.
Seluleko’s proud mother could hardly contain her joy as she watched her daughter receive her medal. She shared heartfelt words of encouragement directed at other parents across the country.
“I am so proud of my daughter’s achievements,” she said warmly. “I want to urge other parents to support their children in the sports or talents they love, rather than choosing for them. Our children flourish when they are allowed to follow their passions.”
Her message struck a powerful chord, echoing the spirit of this year’s Imbube Marathon — one that celebrates inclusion, growth, and the power of nurturing potential from a young age.
Seluleko’s victory stands as a shining reminder that greatness is built on preparation, passion, and perseverance. As she held her trophy high, she not only celebrated a personal triumph but also carried the dreams of many young runners who see in her the possibility of success through hard work and dedication.
The Imbube Marathon continues to spark stories like Seluleko’s — stories of resilience, community, and national pride. Through her remarkable win, Seluleko Ndzinisa has proven that the flame of determination burns brightly, even in the youngest hearts.
