LOBAMBA – “The Imbube Marathon has rightfully earned the name ‘The Bushfire of Running.’”

These were the proud and heartfelt words of Her Royal Highness Princess Tiyandza, who represented His Majesty King Mswati III at the 7th edition of the Imbube Marathon, as she applauded the event’s steady and inspiring growth since its inception in August 2015.

In her address, Princess Tiyandza reflected on the marathon’s humble beginnings and how it has evolved into one of Eswatini’s most celebrated sporting and cultural events. She praised its transformation into a unifying national platform that promotes wellness, resilience, and pride among EmaSwati.

“The growth of this race is powerful in the asylum of our culture and in embracing a positive and healthy lifestyle,” she said, commending the organisers, runners, and supporters for their continued dedication and passion.

Since its introduction a decade ago, the Imbube Marathon has expanded both in scale and significance — growing from a local race into a prestigious regional event that attracts athletes from across the SADC region and beyond. The event has become a beacon of health and unity, encouraging people from all walks of life to embrace an active lifestyle while celebrating the Kingdom’s culture.

The marathon now embodies the same vibrant energy and spirit of togetherness as Eswatini’s renowned cultural festivals. It symbolises endurance, community, and national pride — qualities that continue to define the Kingdom’s identity on and off the track.

Princess Tiyandza commended the event’s organisers for their commitment to developing the marathon into a flagship event that aligns with His Majesty’s vision of a healthy and active nation. She noted that its success over the years stands as a testament to Eswatini’s collective effort in fostering sports development and nurturing a culture of perseverance and excellence.

With every stride, the Imbube Marathon continues to ignite the spirit of unity across the nation — a celebration of health, culture, and strength that resonates deeply with every participant and supporter. As Princess Tiyandza expressed, the growth of this iconic race is proof that the flame of Eswatini’s sporting and cultural pride burns brighter than ever.
