MBABANE – Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) calls for sparing use of electricity, as dam levels are reaching low levels around the country.
The level of water in the Luphohlo Dam, for instance, has reached 28 percent, according to reports from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy. Luphohlo Dam is used mainly for the production of hydroelectricity in the country.
“The Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) urges all customers to use electricity efficiently as our hydro power generation dams have reached critical levels due to the ongoing dry season. If the situation continues, we may need to suspend power generation to protect our equipment,” says part of the notice issued by EEC.
The electricity provider has also suggested some power saving tips that should be used to save the electricity at this time.
Energy-Saving Tips:
– Switch off your geyser during peak hours:
6:00am to 9:00am
5:00pm to 7:00pm (Monday to Friday)
– Use LED bulbs, which consume up to 80 percent less energy.
– Wash clothes in cold water and air-dry them where possible.
– Unplug electronics and chargers when not in use.
These small changes can help you save money on your electricity bill and prevent us from implementing load management.
Together, we can keep the lights on and reduce the strain on our grid.
Let’s work together for a brighter tomorrow!
