MBABANE – Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy (PS) Lindiwe Mbingo expressed her admiration for the Readyboards Pilot Project during a site visit to Khomba So.
During the visit, Mbingo, who led the Select Committee on Rural Electrification (SCORE), mentioned that the government was on the right track as this was the kind of development many communities needed.
She further acknowledged the collaboration between the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC), emphasising the government’s commitment to ensuring no one is left behind in the drive for universal electricity access by 2030.
She noted that the Readyboards, provide a simple yet important solution for underserved communities. By offering a pre-wired power connection that eliminates the need for complex installations, the project addresses a major barrier to rural electrification.
Moreover, Mbingo commended EEC for its dedication to community development, calling the initiative a step forward in creating equitable energy access.
During the visit, SCORE members interacted with Khomba So residents to gather feedback on the Readyboards. Community members shared stories of how the devices had improved their quality of life, enabling children to study at night and powering small income-generating activities. According to Mbingo, this feedback confirmed the project’s potential to drive grassroots development.
The committee also evaluated the technical performance of the Readyboards, ensuring they meet safety and durability standards. Mbingo stressed the importance of continued monitoring and refinement, noting that community feedback would guide future improvements and expansion efforts.
She reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to leveraging innovative solutions for national development, stating that projects like the Readyboards pilot were essential for bridging the energy gap and empowering rural communities.
She concluded that the project served as a blueprint for scaling electrification efforts across Eswatini, proving that with the right approach, meaningful progress is achievable.
