EZULWINI – Government has reaffirmed its dedication to resolving the persistent issues at the University of Eswatini (UNESWA).
During the opening session of the 2025 Cabinet Retreat held today at Royal Villas, Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini emphasized that addressing the challenges faced by UNESWA remains a high priority. He acknowledged that education, as a critical sector, continues to command significant attention from the Cabinet.
“Cabinet is aware of the challenges faced by our flagship university, UNESWA, and has committed to resolving these issues. We eagerly await the report from the task team assigned to assess and propose solutions for the university’s difficulties,” the prime minister stated.
Dlamini further highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to tackle challenges within the health sector. He assured that measures were being implemented to address drug shortages and other pressing issues. “The Central Medical Stores (CMS) is under review to ensure that essential medicines reach Emaswati, while also eliminating opportunities for theft,” he noted.
Addressing broader concerns, the prime minister identified service delivery, healthcare, and education as critical areas requiring government intervention. He acknowledged inefficiencies in the current procurement system, describing it as a significant barrier to effective service delivery.
“Cabinet recognizes the need for urgent reforms in the procurement system and will aggressively address these inefficiencies,” Dlamini said. He also announced that a comprehensive review of the system is expected to be completed within the first quarter of the financial year.
Another priority area highlighted by the prime minister is the implementation of the Performance Management System (PMS). Dlamini admitted that the system’s progress has been slower than anticipated and committed to reinforcing its execution. “This system, currently undergoing testing, has not advanced as we had hoped. We are determined to strengthen and fully support its rollout,” he explained.
The government’s commitment to resolving challenges across key sectors reflects its determination to enhance service delivery and improve the lives of Emaswati.
