MBABANE – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini had a phone conversation with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a significant diplomatic development yesterday.

The discussion centered around the strong and friendly relations between Eswatini and the U.S., with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to deepening cooperation between the two nations.

Spokesperson Tammy Bruce from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of African Affairs emphasized that Secretary Rubio sees great potential in expanding the existing partnership between the two countries. This is welcome news, as stronger ties with the U.S. can bring tangible benefits to ordinary Emaswati in various ways.

More jobs and business opportunities

One of the most important aspects of Eswatini’s relationship with the United States is economic growth. With closer cooperation, there are more chances for American businesses to invest in Eswatini. This means new companies setting up shop in the country, leading to job creation for many Emaswati.

Eswatini already benefits from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), a trade agreement that allows local businesses to export goods to the U.S. duty-free. With stronger ties, there is hope for increased investment in manufacturing, agriculture, and technology—industries that can provide employment and business opportunities for many Swazis.

Boosting education and skills development

Another key benefit of Eswatini’s good relationship with the U.S. is educational support. Over the years, American organizations have provided scholarships, training programs, and educational exchange opportunities for Emaswati. With a renewed commitment from the U.S., more young Swazis could get scholarships to study in American universities or receive technical training to enhance their skills.

Already, programs such as the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and Fulbright Scholarships have helped many young people gain exposure to global best practices in leadership and business. Strengthening ties could mean even more opportunities for Eswatini’s youth, preparing them for the modern job market.

Health and medical support

The United States has been one of the biggest supporters of Eswatini’s health sector, particularly in the fight against HIV/AIDS through programs like the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). This initiative has saved thousands of lives by providing free treatment, awareness programs, and medical support to people living with HIV/AIDS.

With Secretary Rubio expressing a desire to expand the U.S.-Eswatini partnership, there is hope for more investment in the health sector. This could lead to better healthcare services, improved hospitals, and greater access to essential medicines for ordinary citizens.

Infrastructure and development

Increased cooperation between Eswatini and the U.S. could also see more funding for infrastructure projects such as roads, schools, and energy solutions. The U.S. has been known to support African countries with funding for development projects, and Eswatini could benefit from similar initiatives.

A bright future for Eswatini

The recent conversation between Prime Minister and Secretary Rubio is a positive step toward ensuring that Eswatini continues to grow and develop. The United States sees Eswatini as a valuable partner, and through stronger collaboration, Eswatini can enjoy better economic prospects, improved education, enhanced healthcare, and infrastructural growth.

With the government working to attract more foreign investments and partnerships, this diplomatic relationship presents an opportunity for every Liswati to benefit from a brighter future. The doors are open for greater possibilities, and the future looks promising for Eswatini’s growth on the global stage.
