BHUNYA – With a unique blend of turntables and textiles, DJ Karl is on a mission to make waves in both Eswatini’s entertainment and fashion industries.
Born and raised in Zulwini Mlindazwe, Sibusiso Seedwell Soko, better known as DJ Karl, is a 29-year-old artist now residing in Bhunya. His journey into creativity began at a young age, inspired by the sounds of local DJs and the bold styles of fashion. This blend of influences ignited his passion for both deejaying and clothing design, prompting him to pursue both fields with dedication.
DJ Karl has been honing his skills by performing at local events and private functions, with aspirations of headlining major festivals and clubs across Africa. He acknowledges the competitive nature of the deejaying scene but remains focused on building his brand and cultivating a unique sound. “I want people to recognize my sound and style,” he expresses. “It’s more than just playing music; it’s about creating an experience.”
In addition to his music career, DJ Karl is the founder of African Brands, a clothing line that celebrates African identity through innovative designs. His vision is to merge traditional and modern aesthetics, aiming to make his brand a household name in Eswatini and beyond.
As with many young entrepreneurs, DJ Karl faces challenges, including funding and market penetration. However, his optimism shines through as he actively seeks opportunities to collaborate with designers and influencers to widen his reach. “I want African Brands to be more than just clothes. I want it to represent a movement, a lifestyle,” he shares.
Balancing the demands of two careers is no small feat, but DJ Karl embraces the journey ahead. He envisions a future where he not only headlines music festivals but also sees people proudly wearing African Brands. With passion, persistence, and the right opportunities, he is confident that both his music and fashion ventures will flourish.
