MANZINI – Local technology company Avalith IT (PTY) Ltd has become the first Liswati business to produce invoices authorised by the Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS), placing homegrown technology at the centre of the country’s transition to digital tax compliance.
ERS recognised the milestone by presenting Avalith IT with a certificate during its regional engagement at The George Hotel in Manzini on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
Founded by software engineer Samkelo Sigwane and based at the Eswatini Tech Hub, Avalith IT reached the milestone following the official launch of fiscalisation in Eswatini.
Fiscalisation enables businesses to connect their invoicing systems to ERS, allowing invoices to be submitted for authorisation before they are issued to customers.
Speaking during the engagement, Sigwane said the achievement was rooted in his decision to pursue entrepreneurship and use his skills to build a local technology business.
“I took a risk, instead of going for employment, I took a risk and went into business, because of the skills I saw that I had and the potential that I had.”
Sigwane said Avalith IT was a growing software engineering company developing customised technology solutions and automated workflows for businesses.
He said the company’s involvement in fiscalisation includes helping businesses connect their existing point-of-sale (POS) systems to the ERS platform.
“App IT is now able to connect your POS system, maybe phone, maybe POS, only on that same device. Connect it, take that invoice to ERS, and then bring it back to the customer.”
The approach means businesses can have their current systems assessed to determine whether they can accommodate the fiscalisation component, potentially allowing them to adapt existing technology rather than replacing it entirely.
Sigwane said Avalith IT was now ready to work directly with small businesses and retailers preparing for the transition.
“We are now open in an official capacity for consultations for businesses and retailers as they prepare for fiscalisation.”
He said the consultations would help businesses understand whether their existing POS systems could continue to be used and how the fiscalisation element could be incorporated.
The service is particularly relevant to smaller enterprises that may already have functioning sales systems but need to understand how those systems can be adapted to meet the new requirements.
For Avalith IT, the ERS recognition creates an opportunity to support businesses while expanding the commercial role of local software development in Eswatini.
The achievement demonstrates how homegrown technology firms can develop practical solutions for emerging business requirements while creating new opportunities within the digital economy.
For Sigwane and his growing company, becoming the first Liswati business to produce an ERS-authorised invoice is therefore more than a technological milestone. It opens a new market for local expertise as businesses across the country prepare to operate within an increasingly digital tax environment.
