MBABANE – In a welcome turn of events, commuters and transport operators can breathe a sigh of relief—there’s no bus fare increase just yet!
The National Road Transport Council, meeting today to address pressing concerns around rising transport costs, has hit the brakes on the anticipated fare hike. The council responded swiftly to concerns over the recent 40 cents fuel levy and increased User Fees—including permits and insurance—by submitting a proposal to Parliament’s portfolio committee, pushing for a reversal of the fee hikes.
This proactive step shows a commitment to shielding commuters from added financial strain, while still engaging in meaningful dialogue with the Ministry of Public Works & Transport. Talks will continue tomorrow (Wednesday), raising hope for a positive resolution.
For now, stability returns to the public transport scene—a win for the traveling public!
