MBABANE – In the ever-evolving world of global trade, moments of reprieve are rare—but when they come, they offer a valuable chance to reset and realign.
That’s the sentiment shared by government following the United States’ announcement of a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs, a move hailed as a step towards renewed global cooperation.
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade has expressed its appreciation for this strategic decision by U.S. President Donald Trump, viewing it as an opportunity to create space for meaningful dialogue in a highly competitive international trade environment.
“This initiative demonstrates a willingness to create space for constructive engagement on global trade relations,” stated Manqoba B. Khumalo, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade.
While the full practical impact of the pause on Eswatini’s trade relations is still under assessment, the Ministry is already engaging closely with the U.S. Embassy in Eswatini to explore the implications and identify opportunities for deeper cooperation. Additional outreach is also being made to the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to ensure that Eswatini’s perspectives are heard and considered during this critical period of review.
The Ministry urged all stakeholders—especially exporters and private sector players—to stay informed and proactive as the situation evolves.
“The Government of Eswatini remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting national trade interests, while fostering strong partnerships at the regional and international levels,” said Khumalo.
Further updates will be issued as more information emerges, with the Ministry assuring continued support for all stakeholders navigating the shifting global trade environment.
