MKHUZWENI – Young, gifted, and driven — Tecknon Chali Maboo, born Mbonisi Mkhabela, is proving to be a creative force to watch. Whether he’s on stage delivering a dramatic monologue, spitting poetic truth, or dancing to his own beats, Tecknon is a man of many talents — and he’s not slowing down.
Currently hard at work on his debut album “Life Is Not the Same,” Tecknon is also preparing for a much-anticipated event on June 7, 2025, at Christ Revealed International Ministries (C.R.I.M) in Jubela. Co-hosted with fellow creative Hlez’basho, the event promises an explosion of artistic expression — from music and dance to poetry and drama — all in one high-energy celebration of talent.
“This is the beginning of something bigger,” Tecknon shares. “A space where different talents are welcomed, appreciated, and celebrated.”
His journey into the arts began early. As a child, he was often caught dancing around the house — a spark first recognized by his supportive grandmother. By primary school, he had joined a dance group, and by high school at Mkhuzweni, he was already captivating crowds with dramatic performances and poetic narration.
A turning point came during a Siswati Day drama production where his powerful narration revealed another hidden talent — storytelling. Soon, he began writing music and performing his own songs.
“I started writing, and then I gave music a try. People loved it. That’s when I knew I could really do this,” he says.
His résumé is impressive for someone so young — with appearances at major platforms like the MTN BushFire Festival (2017) and Divine Healing Ministry shows in Manzini. He’s also worked with the Ambition Stress Free music group, delivered performances through the Smart Movers Motion Club, and lit up stages with Mkhuzweni High School’s drama team.
“It started with dance, then music, followed by drama, business, and poetry,” he reflects.
Now, with the upcoming event, Tecknon is offering a platform not just for himself, but for other emerging creatives across Eswatini. It’s a celebration of passion, purpose, and the idea that life truly isn’t the same when you follow your calling.
