MANZINI – Yesterday marked a landmark moment in Eswatini’s sporting history with the official launch of the High Performance Sport Strategy 2025-2036 at the George Hotel in Manzini. The event was graced by the Honorable Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Bongani Nzima, who unveiled the government’s bold vision to secure Eswatini’s first Olympic medal by 2036.
The launch ceremony also saw the presence of key sports leaders including EOCGA President Adam Mthethwa, ESRC Chairman Celucolo Dlamini, and numerous Heads of Federations, all united in their commitment to elevate Eswatini’s sporting prowess on the global stage.
A Vision for Sporting Excellence
Minister Nzima emphasized that the High Performance Sport Strategy is a comprehensive roadmap designed to transform the country’s sports landscape. “This strategy is not just about winning medals, it’s about inspiring our youth, building sustainable sports systems, and positioning Eswatini as a competitive force internationally,” he said.
The strategy outlines five strategic priorities critical to achieving this vision
Talent Identification and Development – Establishing robust programs to discover and nurture young athletes from grassroots to elite levels.
Governance & Leadership – Enhancing the management and organizational structures within sports federations to ensure transparency and efficiency.
Sports Science & Technology –Integrating cutting-edge science and technology to optimize athlete performance and injury prevention.
International Exposure – Providing athletes with opportunities to compete and train abroad to gain valuable experience.
Partnerships & Funding- Securing sustainable financial support through collaborations with government, private sector, and international bodies.
Inspiring the Next Generation
The launch event was met with enthusiasm and hope, signaling a new era for Eswatini’s athletes. With the support of Olympic Solidarity and other partners, the strategy aims to create a nurturing environment that will empower athletes to reach their full potential.
