MBABANE — Eswatini has officially been named the host of the 2025 Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa (COSASA) Games, scheduled to take place from 26 to August 30, 2025. The announcement has sparked excitement across the nation as preparations begin to welcome young athletes from across the Southern African region.
The tournament will feature a wide range of sporting disciplines, showcasing the region’s budding talents. Among the key events are soccer (Under-18) for both boys and girls, basketball (Under-18), athletics across three age categories (U13, U15, and U18) for both boys and girls, netball (Under-18), and volleyball (Under-18) for both boys and girls.
The Eswatini Schools Sports Association (ESSA), the body responsible for coordinating the event, is already mobilizing resources and support to ensure a successful tournament. ESSA President Zakhele Myeni has called on the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs to extend financial support, stressing the substantial resources required to host a regional competition of this magnitude.
“These games demand a lot of financial input,” the president emphasized. “We are appealing to the Ministry and all stakeholders to assist us in delivering a memorable and well-organized event that will not only benefit Eswatini’s sports sector but also promote regional unity and youth development.” he said.
The COSASA Games serve as a vital platform for nurturing young talent and fostering camaraderie among Southern African nations. As Eswatini prepares to take center stage, the country looks forward to hosting a successful, inclusive, and competitive tournament that will leave a lasting legacy for youth sports development in the region.
