EZULWINI – The spirit of celebration lit up the Kingdom of Eswatini in May 2025 as the globally renowned MTN Bushfire Festival once again proved to be a magnet for international travellers and a catalyst for local economic growth.

According to a new statistical release from the Eswatini Tourism Authority, a total of 18 372 visitor arrivals were recorded over the Bushfire weekend, further cementing the festival’s status as Eswatini’s premier tourism event.
The top inbound market was neighbouring South Africa, accounting for 62.2% of all arrivals. Mozambique followed at 18.7%, with Zimbabwe (5.1%), Malawi, Lesotho, the USA, France, and others completing the top 10. Notably, arrivals from countries such as the UK, India, and the Netherlands reflect the festival’s increasing international appeal beyond Southern Africa.
Accommodation across the country experienced a major boom. Guesthouses led the way with an impressive occupancy rate of 94.4%, followed by hotels at 90.2%, game reserves at 84.6%, and bed and breakfasts at 77.3%. Among the subregions, Ezulwini recorded the highest occupancy rate at 95.4%, a clear indication of its strategic role as a tourism hub.
“This year’s festival has not only been a cultural and musical triumph but also a strong statement of Eswatini’s tourism potential,” said a representative from the Eswatini Tourism Authority. “Bushfire continues to bring the world to our doorstep while showcasing our hospitality, diversity, and warmth.”
As thousands of music lovers, culture enthusiasts, and global citizens danced to the rhythm of unity and fire, the economic ripple effects of the festival echoed across local businesses, accommodation providers, and cultural sectors.
With the success of Bushfire 2025, Eswatini has once again proven that it is not just a destination, but an unforgettable experience.
