LOBAMBA – In a world where comparison often dims confidence, Siphephile Mthethwa is strutting boldly against the tide.

Born and raised in Eswatini and now based in Lobamba, the 25-year-old model has turned self-doubt into runway confidence, using modeling as a powerful tool for healing and empowerment.

Her journey began in 2019, not with a signed agency contract, but with a quiet whisper of encouragement to herself: “This is it—you can do it.” At the time, she was battling low self-esteem and doubt. “I always wanted to be a model, but I didn’t believe in myself,” she shares. That changed the day she took a leap of faith and auditioned for a SADC fashion show hosted by Carole Lubelo. Though terrified, she qualified—and never looked back.

Since that day, her modelling path has taken her to South Africa, Mozambique, and beyond. While the spotlight has shone brightly at times, the journey hasn’t always been glamorous. “Some shows don’t pay,” she admits, “but the experience and exposure are worth it.” She now sees every challenge as part of her growth.

In a notoriously tough industry, she has faced her fair share of criticism. “I was once told I was too fat,” she reveals. But rather than retreat, she rose. “I took it as motivation to work on myself.” Her story is a powerful reminder that resilience, not perfection, is the real key to success.

What excite her most about modeling are the people. “Meeting different designers, models, and cultures—it’s beautiful,” she says. And she’s just getting started. “I won’t stop until I travel overseas.”

Now, with six years under her belt, she’s passionate about mentoring aspiring models and sharing her truth: “Being skinny doesn’t make you a model. Passion does.”
