MBABANE – Eswatini has been commended by the international community for maintaining a positive track record in repaying its debts, His Majesty King Mswati III has revealed.

Speaking at the Ludzidzini Royal Residence on 6 July 2025, the King reported back to the nation on his recent working visits to Ghana and Spain. One of the highlights, he said, came during his participation at the United Nations 4th International Conference on Financing for Development, held in Seville, Spain.

His Majesty stated that Eswatini’s reputation for honouring its financial obligations had been acknowledged during the conference, and this recognition would serve the country well in the future. “It is important that we maintain a responsible approach to borrowing,” he said. “We will continue to require support from both international and local financial institutions, and being seen as a trustworthy partner ensures we remain eligible for such assistance.”

He emphasised that global cooperation is essential to economic prosperity. Countries must depend on each other and on international bodies to overcome challenges and grow. The King added that Eswatini must continue to value all forms of support it receives, as this opens the door for future partnerships and opportunities.

During the conference, the financial and economic performance of participating nations was reviewed. His Majesty shared that Eswatini’s economy was showing signs of steady improvement, with an annual growth rate of between 7% and 8% being recorded. He said these encouraging figures make the country more attractive to international financiers and development partners.

On his visit to Spain, the King also observed the country’s success in agriculture, particularly in food production and self-sufficiency. He expressed hope that Eswatini could learn from Spain’s agricultural models, as the kingdom continues working towards food sovereignty. The aim, he said, is for Eswatini not only to feed itself but also to produce a surplus for export.

His Majesty concluded by encouraging the nation to continue working together to uphold the country’s strong financial and economic reputation on the world stage.
