MBABANE – The Government of Eswatini has received a generous donation of computer equipment from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support the rollout of the Integrated Electronic Case Management System (IECMS), a key initiative aimed at modernizing the country’s justice sector. The handover took place today, August 14, 2025.
The equipment is valued at approximately USD 10 000 which is equivalent to E 180 000. It will strengthen institutional capacity, enhance operational efficiency, and improve access to justice for all citizens.
Speaking at the official handover ceremony, Hon. Prince Simelane, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, described the donation as “a significant milestone in our collective efforts to transform Eswatini’s justice system.”
He highlighted that the IECMS is a digital transformation initiative that integrates the work of the police, the Attorney General’s Office, prosecution services, the judiciary, the Law Society, correctional services, and human rights offices, in collaboration with the Ministry of ICT.
“The IECMS will enable seamless collaboration across all justice sector institutions, streamline case workflows, reduce delays, and ensure that justice is not only done but also seen to be done,” the Minister said. He emphasized that the technology will directly contribute to reducing case backlogs and promoting transparency and accountability across the justice system.
Ms. Nessie Golakai-Gould, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to supporting the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. “Beyond this equipment handover, UNDP remains dedicated to assisting the justice sector with strategic planning, capacity building, and digital transformation initiatives,” she said.
The Minister also called on officers of the Eswatini Royal Police Service and His Majesty’s Correctional Services to utilize the equipment diligently and responsibly. “This technology provides the tools necessary to implement the IECMS effectively, ensuring faster, more reliable, and accessible justice delivery for all Emaswati,” he said.
Minister Simelane expressed heartfelt appreciation to UNDP Eswatini for its unwavering support. “This donation is not just a transfer of equipment; it is a powerful investment in the future of our justice system and the well-being of our citizens. Together, we are building a stronger, more inclusive, and efficient justice system,” he added.
The handover marks a key step toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal 16, which emphasizes peace, justice, and strong institutions. Stakeholders attending the event expressed optimism that the IECMS will enhance coordination, accountability, and transparency across the justice sector, ultimately improving public trust and service delivery.
With this partnership, Eswatini takes a major leap toward digital justice, demonstrating a shared commitment between government and international partners to foster a just, equitable, and prosperous society.
