MBABANE– The Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy, partnering with UNICEF, launched a crucial week long workshop, signaling a serious commitment to fix Eswatini’s long standing water and sanitation problems.
The launch is a vital, comprehensive step toward making water reliable and safe for every citizen, ensuring the country meets its big national, continental, and global targets, like SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and the Africa Water Vision 2025.
This intensive gathering immediately brings together the people who make the rules and the people who deliver the services policymakers, service providers, and other key stakeholders to finally modernize the governance of clean water and hygiene (WASH) services.
Over four intensive days, the participants won’t just talk, they will engage in collaborative learning and problem solving, sharing experiences and exchanging ideas to strengthen the sector. They are diving deep into the WASHREG Framework, a global blueprint for managing water systems, gaining in-depth knowledge of its practical use.
Following this, participants are performing an honest check up and thorough analysis of Eswatini’s current WASH regulatory status to figure out exactly what’s broken and what’s missing. The next step is critical: pinpointing crucial regulatory and institutional measures needed to fortify the WASH sector against future challenges. The workshop’s final, pivotal goal is to craft a clear, strategic plan to upgrade regulations, ultimately securing a healthier future for all citizens.
This workshop is a much needed forum for action, directly tackling the regulatory and institutional measures necessary to enhance capacities and improve service delivery. By bringing everyone in charge to the same table, the Ministry and UNICEF are encouraging them to move past regulatory hurdles and find effective, practical solutions to the sector’s most pressing challenges.
This joint effort underscores that the government and its partners are determined to lead the charge in making sure that cleaner, safer water service delivery is a sustainable reality across the nation, ensuring WASH moves from a challenge to an achievement.
