SIMUNYE- The Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation (RES) joined the global community in commemorating World AIDS Day on December 1,2025 reflecting on progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS and renewing its commitment to supporting those affected .
Dumi Dhliwayo, General Manager Finance, delivered the keynote address on behalf of Managing Director Nick Jackson, emphasizing the significance of the day. “We are joining the global community in commemorating World AIDS Day 2025, a day of reflection, solidarity, and renewed commitment.
This year’s observance comes at a pivotal moment as the nation faces major disruptions in the HIV response due to significant funding cuts from international donors. Today is a reminder that everyone has a role to play in ensuring that those living with HIV/AIDS receive the care and support they need,” he said.
Dhliwayo also highlighted the national World AIDS Day theme, “Eswatini: Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response,” stating, “This theme reminds us not only of how far we have come, but also of the urgent work that lies ahead. We must work together to ensure our communities are equipped to respond to the challenges posed by HIV/AIDS, and that everyone has access to the services they need to live healthy and fulfilling lives.”
Dr. Rhoy ShoreShore, Head of Medical and Wellness Services, underscored the progress made in HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention. “We have come a long way in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Life-saving treatment is widely available, access to antiretroviral therapy has expanded dramatically, and the stigma around being HIV-positive has significantly decreased. People are living longer, healthier, and more productive lives. However, we must not become complacent. We must continue to ensure that everyone has access to the services they need to prevent new infections and live with dignity,” Dr. ShoreShore said.
The commemoration at RES included HIV testing and counseling, health education talks, and community outreach programs. These initiatives aimed to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care, while promoting a culture of inclusivity and support for those living with HIV/AIDS.
By marking World AIDS Day, RES reaffirmed its commitment to the health and well-being of its employees, their families, and the wider community.
The corporation urged everyone to play an active role in the fight against HIV/AIDS by:
- Raising awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care
- Promoting inclusivity and support for those living with HIV/AIDS
- Advocating for increased access to HIV/AIDS services, particularly for vulnerable populations
- Supporting research and development of new HIV/AIDS treatments and prevention methods
“Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those living with HIV/AIDS and work towards a future where everyone has access to the services they need to live healthy and fulfilling lives,” the statement concluded.
