MBABANE– A local charity, the Think Big Foundation, has brought relief to vulnerable learners by paying E15 000 in school fees for 13 pupils across five schools in the Mkhiweni constituency.
The intervention targeted learners who were at risk of dropping out because their families could not afford school fees. Co-founder Sabelo Mncina explained that the foundation acted after receiving multiple requests from pupils who had stopped attending classes due to financial difficulties.
“Education is the key to a better future, and it is heartbreaking to see children miss school simply because of financial challenges,” Mncina said.
After verifying the pupils’ circumstances with the respective schools, the foundation confirmed that the beneficiaries came from Mliba High School, Dvokolwako High School, Mcozini High School, Lamawandla High School, and one other school in the constituency.
Beyond settling the fees, the foundation discovered that some learners lacked proper uniforms. To ensure the pupils could attend school with confidence, Think Big also provided pairs of school shoes.
Mncina stressed that financial hardship continues to be a major barrier to education, particularly in rural communities. He added that the organisation remains committed to supporting learners in need and will continue collaborating with schools and local communities to identify vulnerable children.
