MAHAMBA- Officers from His Majesty’s Correctional Services successfully conquered the demanding Mahamba Gorge trail on March 28, 2026, as part of a coordinated initiative aimed at promoting fitness and raising awareness on key social issues. The hike, held in the Mahamba area, brought together correctional officers from across Eswatini who participated in the physically challenging expedition.
This year’s theme was “Hiking for GBV Awareness and Digital Safety,” with the aim of addressing Gender-Based Violence and encouraging responsible online conduct. Officials said the activity was designed not only to strengthen teamwork and wellness among officers, but also to engage them in conversations around community safety and their role in combating violence.
Participants began the hike in the early hours of March 28, navigating steep and rugged terrain over several hours until they completed the trail. Despite the difficulty of the route, officers worked together, demonstrating resilience, discipline and unity key attributes required in their line of duty. The initiative highlighted how such activities can build morale while reinforcing a shared sense of purpose.
Beyond the physical challenge, the hike served as a reflective platform for officers to consider their broader responsibilities in society. Many participants noted the importance of taking an active stand against GBV and promoting safer digital spaces, particularly as technology becomes more embedded in daily life.
Teamwork remained a defining feature throughout the journey, with officers encouraging one another at difficult points along the trail. The experience strengthened camaraderie within the service while showcasing their determination to overcome obstacles collectively.
The success of the event was further supported by partners including Indlelayekuphila Restaurant, who ensured participants were well catered for. Overall, the Mahamba Gorge hike stood out as a meaningful initiative that combined endurance, awareness and service to the community.
