MBABANE — Interest is rising ahead of the fifth edition of the Yesuka Twe Half Marathon, with organisers confirming that more than 250 participants have already registered for the race set for 2 May 2026 in Manzini.

Hosted by VOC Radio Station and supported by partners including 8Bet, RV Value Projects and the Sports and Recreation Council, the event continues to attract runners, walkers, churches, companies and families across the country.

Station Director of VOC, Bishop Zachariah Mthethwa, said the growing numbers show strong public enthusiasm for the event and urged more emaSwati to take part. He said, “We are excited by the response so far, with over 250 people already registered. We are calling on everyone, not only athletes, but also churches, companies and families, to come and be part of this event.”

He added that the race is designed to promote healthy living across all age groups. “Exercise is essential for a healthy and active life. We want emaSwati to come out in large numbers and be part of this event. It is not only for athletes but for everyone,” he said.

The race will feature three categories, 21 kilometres, 10 kilometres and 5 kilometres, with the 5 kilometres including both a walk and run option for beginners and casual participants.

The event was officially launched in February with a total sponsorship package of E140 000. VOC contributed E50 000, 8Bet E37 500, the Sports and Recreation Council E25 000, RV Value Projects E17 500, and Jordan Church in Zion E10 000.

Technical advisor from Zithande Athletic Club, Nsizwa Thwala, said the course design offers a unique challenge, especially for long distance runners. He said, “This is a unique double lap race for the 21 kilometre category, which will test endurance and strategy. The route passes through key areas of Manzini and gives runners a true road racing experience.”

Routes for the race start and finish at Zakhele Sports Ground, passing through Sihlahleni, Mathayini, Mkhiweni, KaShali, Mabhodini, kaMzwandile, Ngwane Park Primary School and Ludwala depending on category distance.

Organisers have also announced incentives to boost participation, including goodie bags for the first 1 000 registered participants and a special award for the group, church, company or club that registers the highest number of runners.

Registration remains open until 27 April 2026 and can be done at VOC Reception in Manzini, Torga Optical, Furniture Warehouse branches in Mbabane, Siteki and Nhlangano, Fitness Zone in Manzini, Destiny Music and Sound in Mbabane, or online at smartticket.co.za/yesuka.

Over the years, the event has also grown into a platform for identifying rising talent. One example is Vuysile Mphaphu, who won the Lubombo Half Marathon after being discovered through the 2023 edition of the Yesuka Twe Half Marathon when it was still known as the VOC Half Marathon.
