MBABANE – The stage is set for a cross-continental comedy experience as Ugandan sensation Dr Hilary Okello prepares to headline Jokes From Far Away, a highly anticipated show at Theatre Club Mbabane on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
The event is not just another comedy night, but part of a broader cultural exchange initiative within the African comedy circuit. Event organiser Dr Shakes revealed that bringing Okello to Eswatini is rooted in a growing vision to connect comedians across borders.
“Bringing Dr Hilary Okello to Eswatini is part of our exchange program as comedians in the African region. On the 1st of May I’ll be in Uganda for a show, and as an exchange he’ll be here on the 28th of May. This is a program established by the Eswatini International Comedy Festival,” he said.
Okello himself has already confirmed his upcoming visit through his social media platforms, expressing excitement about performing in the Kingdom.
“I’m excited to be coming to Eswatini. Looking forward to sharing laughter and amazing moments with you all. See you on the 28th of May,” he shared online.
Renowned for his witty storytelling and relatable humor, Okello is expected to deliver a performance that blends cultural narratives with sharp comedic timing, a style that has earned him recognition across Africa.
Dr Shakes emphasized that the show also serves as a build-up to the much-anticipated third edition of the Eswatini International Comedy Festival, positioning it as more than just entertainment.
“As mentioned, this is a show building up to the third edition of the Eswatini International Comedy Festival. Such shows are a platform to showcase especially local talent, so our comedians can go head-to-head with these internationals,” he added.
The night will not belong to Okello alone. A strong local lineup featuring Dr Shakes himself alongside Cedric is set to complement the international act, promising a well-rounded and electrifying comedy showcase.
“Comedy lovers should come and have a good time. Not only will Dr Hilary be performing, but I will also be on stage, along with Cedric,” said Dr Shakes.
With early bird tickets priced at E100 and standard tickets at E200, anticipation continues to build for what promises to be a night of laughter, cultural exchange and artistic growth.
As Mbabane gears up for the show, one thing is certain, comedy is proving to be a powerful bridge, connecting Africa one punchline at a time.
