MANZINI-  Lindiwe Dlamini has returned as Mayor of the Matsapha Town Council after being re-elected unopposed during the Inaugural Meetings 2026, while Xolani Masuku was elected the new Mayor of the Manzini Municipal Council as towns across the country continue constituting new municipal councils this week.

Dlamini’s return to office signals continuity in leadership for the industrial town as the newly elected council begins its term with expectations of strengthened service delivery, infrastructure development, and closer engagement with residents and businesses.

In Manzini, Xolani Masuku now takes over leadership of the country’s commercial hub at a time when residents continue calling for improved roads, better waste management, cleaner urban spaces, and responsive local governance.

The Inaugural Meetings 2026 are being held across municipalities as newly elected councillors assume office and elect mayors who will provide political and civic leadership for the coming term.

Under Eswatini’s local government system, mayors are elected annually by fellow councillors and serve as the political heads of municipal councils. Their role includes presiding over council meetings, providing strategic oversight, representing residents’ interests, and promoting local economic development initiatives.

Mayors also act as the public face of municipalities during official functions and community programmes aimed at improving social welfare and strengthening civic unity.

While mayors provide political leadership, the day-to-day administration and implementation of council policies remain the responsibility of Town Clerks or Chief Executive Officers.

The ongoing constitution of councils is expected to usher in renewed focus on urban development, effective governance, and improved municipal services across the country.
