MBABANE- The Eswatini National Fire Rescue and Emergency Service has confirmed that its Chief Fire Officer, Luke Lushaba, is attending a three-day SADC Fire Safety Management Forum Conference aimed at enhancing fire safety and emergency response across the region.

The forum, held within the Southern African Development Community, brings together fire service leaders and safety professionals to exchange knowledge, enhance cooperation, and address key challenges affecting emergency management systems. Lushaba’s participation is expected to contribute to regional dialogue while equipping ENFRES with modern strategies to improve preparedness and response.

The conference focuses on critical areas such as proactive fire emergency preparedness and response, building the psychological strength of firefighters, and strengthening fire prevention and risk assessment frameworks. Delegates are also exploring the application of risk-based fire engineering principles, particularly in oil and gas operations, as well as the evolving role of fire services within organisational safety structures.

These discussions reflect a broader shift toward integrated and forward-looking emergency management systems. By prioritising both prevention and response, the forum aims to ensure that fire services across the region are better prepared to manage complex and high-risk incidents.

In addition, the emphasis on firefighter mental resilience highlights the growing recognition of the psychological demands associated with emergency response. Strengthening this aspect is seen as essential in maintaining effective and sustainable fire services.

ENFRES stated that participation in the forum reinforces its commitment to continuous professional development, innovation, and public safety. The organisation intends to apply insights gained from the conference to enhance operational effectiveness and strengthen emergency response capabilities in Eswatini.

Ultimately, the engagement is expected to support the development of safer communities and more resilient emergency systems, in line with ENFRES’ mandate to protect life, property, and the environment.
