MBABANE – Emotions ran high as family, friends, colleagues and mourners gathered to honour the life and legacy of Mrs Rejoice Nomathemba Nkambule during a moving memorial service held on Friday, May 22, 2026.
The solemn occasion was marked by sobs, tears, moments of laughter and heartfelt reflections as throngs of people who had the privilege of knowing and working with Nkambule converged to bid farewell to a woman many described as exceptional, compassionate and deeply committed to serving others. Throughout the service, speakers painted a picture of a distinguished leader whose impact stretched far beyond the workplace, touching communities and inspiring countless individuals.
Those who paid tribute spoke of a woman whose brilliance, excellence, courage, wisdom and unwavering faith made her a pillar of strength to many. Colleagues, family members and friends reflected on a life devoted to uplifting others, describing her as a trailblazer whose contribution would not easily be forgotten.
Representing the Honourable Minister for Health and speaking on behalf of the Ministry, US Administration Rev. Anthony Masilela delivered a moving tribute in honour of Nkambule, describing her as one of the defining public health leaders of her generation.
Masilela characterised the late Nkambule as a strategist, nation-builder, mentor and patriot who dedicated her life to the betterment of society. Above all, he said, she was a servant of the people whose passion for improving lives remained evident throughout her distinguished service.
“Today, heaven rejoices over a life well lived — a faithful servant who walked in grace, humility, wisdom and love,” said Rev. Masilela.
“Heaven celebrates a daughter whose light touched lives, strengthened communities, inspired a nation and left footprints that time itself will never erase. We thank Almighty God for the privilege of living among such an angelic soul. Her presence was a gift, her service was a blessing, and her impact will echo through generations yet unborn,” he added.
His tribute resonated deeply with mourners, many of whom were visibly emotional as they reflected on Nkambule’s legacy. Some wiped away tears while others nodded in agreement as speaker after speaker affirmed the immense contribution she had made to public health and national development.
Beyond her professional achievements, mourners remembered Nkambule as a warm-hearted individual who valued relationships and inspired confidence in those around her. Many described her as a mentor whose guidance and encouragement helped shape careers and strengthen institutions.
The memorial service also served as a moment of collective reflection, with attendees acknowledging the void left by her passing. While grief permeated the gathering, there were also moments of celebration as stories of her kindness, humour and steadfast commitment to service were shared.
